Blue Black Hair

Lute FP This is killer. It sounds like the soundtrack to Crybaby 2, the sequel John Waters never made to the original classic.

This is 50s R&B/doo-wop all the way, with upbeat rhythms, prominent and driving guitar work, and that classic Big Sax thing they did so well, so long ago. And the vocals are fantastic, doing what I call that “squeaky Billie Holiday thing” that I love so much.

This album is pure fun.

about

Formed in 2006, The Del Moroccos are an 8-piece Rock n’ Roll band with stellar guitar, bass, drums, piano, tenor/bari sax, and 3 sexy frontwomen - Gabrielle Sutton, Adrienne Stoner, and Sarah Goldstein. Hi-Style Records put out their debut full-length album, Blue Black Hair, in 2008. Knock the Ray-ettes, Bo Diddley and Link Wray together, with a blast of garage, a hit of late ’50s black rock n’ roll, and you get a red hot raucous mix of "Soulful 50s garage." The album features veteran Chicago musicians from the rockabilly, surf, ska, jazz and R & B scenes, from bands including: JD McPherson, The Mighty Blue Kings, The Four Charms, Deals Gone Bad, The Modern Sounds, Cave Catt Sammy, Andrew Bird, Kevin O’Donnell’s Quality 6.

Blue Black Hair ticks all the right rockin’ boxes and is definitely one for the shopping list! - Pete O’Gorman, Now Dig This, UK CD of 2008!!!!

“We had many contenders but this album came out on top when we received it a few weeks ago. Great songs, great band, great musicians...it’s got it all. Get yours now!” - Martin Vowels, RootsCD.com

“.....(the Del Moroccos) repped for Chicago well, blurring the lines between rockabilly and early-60s soul, without the narrow-minded myopia that sinks most newer ‘billy acts.” - James Porter, Time Out Chicago
